My device freezes or the device is not responding.
This may be caused by the amount of applications running on your device:
Try closing the applications by going into memory or download the task manager under the download section (Pocket PC's only); all new pocket pc's released from the Touch onwards will already have this application on the device - Please make sure that application has been activated
The amount of PIM information (contacts; email etc.) could be too large causeing the device to slow:
Go into File Explorer - My Device and see how large your data file is; minimum of 2MB recommened
How can I unlock the SIM card
You might have entered the wrong password (SIM PIN) three times in a row. The SIM card can only be unlocked by your mobile operator or must be replaced.
How do I find my IMEI
The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier) is printed somewhere on the housing or on the label underneath the battery, next to the SIM card slot. Alternatively you can retrieve this information in one of two other ways:1) Tap Start > Settings > System > Device information > Identity.2) Tap Start > Phone. Tap *#06# and the IMEI will be displayed on screen.
Is there any interface from UMTS core network to other mobile networks
UMTS specifications do not have any special interface planned for other mobile networks, but all telephone networks can be connected to UMTS core network with standard S7 (or other) signalling system using E1s or T1s. Than enables voice calls to be made to all other telephone networks. If other networks support additional services like call forwarding, calling line identity, fax, slow-speed data ect, technically that is possible to implement this between networks. All telephone networks are designed to work with each other and UMTS networks will use standard interfaces towards all other networks. S7 and IP (internet protocol) will be the most commonly used interfaces standard, but all UMTS vendors can offer tens of different country-specific interface protocols if required
What are 1G, 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 4G
Technically generations are defined:
1. 1G networks (NMT, C-Nets, AMPS, TACS) are considered to be the first analog cellular systems, which started in the early 1980s, although there were radio telephone systems even before that.
2. 2G networks (GSM, cdmaOne, DAMPS) are the first digital cellular systems launched early 1990s.
3. 2.5G networks (GPRS, cdma2000 1x) are the enhanced versions of 2G networks with data rates up to about 144kbit/s.
4. 3G networks (UMTS FDD and TDD, cdma2000 1x EVDO, cdma2000 3x, TD-SCDMA, Arib WCDMA, EDGE, IMT-2000 DECT) are the latest cellular networks that have data rates 384kbit/s and more.
5. 4G is mainly a marketing buzzword at the moment. Some basic 4G research is being done, but no frequencies have been allocated. The Fourth Generation could be ready for implementation around 2012.
What are the different types of 3G networks
ITU Recommendation ITU-R M.1457 specifies five types of 3G radio interfaces:
1. IMT-2000 CDMA Direct Spread, also known as UTRA FDD including WCDMA in Japan, ARIB / DoCoMo recommendation. UMTS is developed by 3GPP.
2. IMT-2000 CDMA Multi-carrier, also known as Cdma2000 (3X) developed by 3GPP2. IMT-2000 CDMA2000 includes 1X components, like cdma2000 1X EV-DO.
3. IMT-2000 CDMA TDD, also known as UTRA TDD and TD-SCDMA. TD-SCDMA is developed in China and supported by TD-SCDMA Forum4. IMT-2000 TDMA Single Carrier, also known as UWC-136 (Edge) supported by UWCC5. IMT-2000 DECT supported by DECT Forum. Some 2.5G systems (GSM GPRS, IS- 95B and CDMA2000 1X (?)) will be able to deliver 3G services, so it will be difficult for users to see the difference.
What are the types of Call Forwarding
There are four types of call forwarding on your Windows Mobile device: Unconditional will forward every incoming call to the specified number. No Reply will forward any unanswered calls to the specified number. Busy will forward any rejected calls while Unavailable will forward any calls when the phone is off or out of coverage.
What are the UMTS data rates for services
2.048Mb/s for pico-cell (and micro-cell) applications. b. 384kb/s for medium size cells. (micro and small macro cells)c. 144kb/s and 64kb/s for large cell applications. (Large macro cells)d. 14.4kb/s for continuous low speed data applications in very large cells.e. 12.2kb/s for speech (4.75kb/s - 12.2kb/s)f. 9.6kb/s globally (satellite)
What are the UMTS frequencies and channel spacing
1900-1920 and 2010-2025 MHz Time Division Duplex (TDD, TD/CDMA) Unpaired, channel spacing is 5 MHz and raster is 200 kHz. Tx and Rx are not separated in frequency 1920-1980 and 2110-2170 MHz Frequency Division Duplex (FDD, W-CDMA) Paired uplink and downlink, channel spacing is 5 MHz and raster is 200 kHz. An Operator needs 3 - 4 channels (2x15 or 2x20 MHz) to be able to build a high-speed, high-capacity network.1980-2010 and 2170-2200 MHz Satellite uplink and downlink.
Why am I not getting any signal on my handset
1. Ensure your handset has a SIM card installed.
2. Ensure your handset is not set to Flight Mode.
3. Ensure your device is in signal coverage area.
4. Reset your device.
If there is still a problem it is probable that the unit is defective, and needs to be sent for repair
Why can't I send out text message(SMS)
Please ensure your are in a network coverage area. If the problem still exists, make sure your device has the correct message centre number. if all the above is correct them try another SIM card in the device or hard reset your device.
Why is WCDMA called this
3G WCDMA systems have 5MHz bandwidth (one direction). 5MHz is neither wide nor narrow; it is just the bandwidth. New 3G WCDMA systems have wider bandwidth than existing 2G cdma systems (cdmaOne 1.25MHz), that's why it's Wide. There are commercial cdma systems with 20MHz bandwidth.
Is it possible to record telephone calls with my PDA Phone
The PDA Phone allows you to record with the built-in microphone. The quality of the recording may be defined in the menu: Start> Settings> Input. The built-in microphone can only record in mono quality. You must first dial the number and then start the recorder: If you start the recorder before dialling it will turn off when you dial. While in a call you would need to go to Start > Programs > Notes > Menu > View Recording Toolbar > THen hit the record button
My device has turned itself off unexpectedly
Please check power management setting; if correct, follow the steps below:
1. Your battery may be drained of power and needs to be charged.

What are Channels
Broadcast channels (GSM only) provide a mobile operator with the ability to send SMS messages to all subscribers located in a given part of the network. In order for this to function on your Windows Mobile service, the network must support and utilize this technology.
What is Call Barring
Call barring allows you to specify the types of calls that can and cannot be sent and received from your device. For incoming calls, you can block none, all or only calls when roaming. For outbound calls, you can block all calls, all international calls or all international calls except those to your home country.
What are the Preferred Network settings from my network
The Preferred Networks setting, on GSM devices, will be stored on the SIM and determines what mobile operator networks your device will connect to by default. Your primary or home network is the mobile operator whom issued the SIM and the device will connect to this when available. You can override the preferred settings by setting the device's network settings to Manual as opposed to the default setting of Automatic.
Is there an even faster way of dialling a stored number than with the PocketPC Phone Edition
If you would like to call a number from the contacts which has been stored with the PocketPC Phone Edition Speed Dial function, you must switch into the dialling list with the Speed Dial button on the virtual PocketPC Phone Edition keyboard and click the desired entry. The first 11 entries in the Speed Dial list can even be chosen a little bit faster. Entries 2 through 10 in the Speed Dial list (position 1 is the Voicemail number) can be chosen with the number keys 2 through 0 on the dialling keyboard, by simply holding the respective number for at least 2 seconds.
How do I turn the Phone Off
1. Tap on the signal strength indicator on the title bar,2. Tap Turn on flight mode (phone is then switched off) or Turn off flight mode (phone is then switched back on) option within the pop-up menu. NOTE: TURNING YOUR DEVICE OFF WITH THE POWER BUTTON DOES NOT TURN OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE. YOU MUST TURN OFF YOUR WIRELESS CONNECTION TO YOUR GSM OPERATOR'S NETWORK WITH FLIGHT MODE.
